Air Conditioners to undergo a change in refrigerants by 2010
The effects of global warming can be seen and experienced by everyone in the world today. As days and nights grow warmer by the day, we are also now accustomed to seeing and experiencing unusual weather patterns. Some predict that it is the calm before the storm. Many are of the view that CFC, HFC and HCFC are the main culprits behind global warming. CFC (Chlorofluoro Carbons) destroys ozone particles in the atmosphere causing the sun’s ultraviolet rays to pass through the earth’s atmosphere causing it to heat up.
R-22 to R-410A
Refrigerants such as R-12, which were phased out in the nineties, were regarded as one of the main culprits. R-22, used in most air conditioners these days has also faced a lot of opposition from environmental groups. Business and home owners are being forced to change from the 10 SEER systems to the 13 SEER systems. Refrigerant R-22 which was used until now will be phased out to due to strict environmental laws coming into place. These refrigerant gases help in the cooling process. R-22 is being phased out and in its place the refrigerant R-410A will be available. Many businesses use R-22 refrigerant because it was cheaper, but they did not look at the cost of maintenance they had to shell out.
R-410A benefits
Refrigerant R-410A might cost more but will consume less energy in the end. Coils will need to be changed for the R-410A refrigerant. The manufacturing of R-22 will stop by 2010 and only environment friendly refrigerants will be allowed to be manufactured.
