All you need to know about the refrigerants that are used in your air conditioning system

Nowadays we cannot imagine what our lives would be like without an air conditioner. You have to acknowledge the fact that air conditioners make our lives easier. These air conditioning systems give us respite from heat. When temperatures are high, it can be difficult to cope with such conditions.

The refrigerants that are used in air conditioners
So how do air conditioning systems really work? An air conditioner makes use of a particular refrigerant to cool the room. Refrigerants are vital for the functioning of an air conditioning system. These air conditioning systems are responsible for heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC).

There are different types of refrigerants used in air conditioners. These refrigerants are made of different chemicals. Some work in high pressures, while there are others that function much better in low pressures.

What are these refrigerant chemicals made up of?
HFCs or hydrofluorocarbons are made of hydrogen, fluorine and carbon. It causes the least damage to the ozone layer. Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) are made of hydrogen, chlorine, fluorine and carbon. Chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs consist of chlorine, fluorine and carbon. This refrigerant contains a large amount of chlorine and is known to cause the most damage to the ozone layer.
