London HEVAR 2009 was a fantastic trade event

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

London HEVAR 2009 was an exclusive show of air conditioning units and HVAC systems that took place on the 23rd and 24th of September 2009 at Greycoat Street’s Royal Horticultural Hall.

More than 60 HVAC companies exhibited at the show, out of which 20% of the companies were first time participants. Numerous new HVAC products and innovations were launched at the exhibition and visitors at the exhibition had exclusive access to the latest HVAC products and air conditioning systems at the show.

On the first day of the exhibition a fantastic seminar discussed and made critical judgements on several HVAC systems and their sustainability factors. And, the visitors voted after the seminar to determine the technology which offered greatest sustainability.

The seminars were headed by celebrated achievers in the air conditioning industry and offered a useful insight of the current products on offer and plans for the future. The event was a brilliant success and it’s easy to see why many exhibitors are now looking forward to the 2010 exhibition already.

To increase the shelf life of your air conditioner, clean the air filters

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

On a general basis, almost all the people are ignorant to the technical specifications of electrical devices. They are only concerned with the operation part and are completely unaware to the technical aspects. Some types of technical equipment are easy to understand and maintain and some are not.

An air conditioning unit is one such device that may fall into both the above categories. The air-conditioning system itself is a complicated system that used refrigerant gas under pressure. This part of the system should only be maintained by a professional technician. However, one of the most important parts in an air-conditioner is the air-conditioning filter. They are similar to thin vents or slits. They play a key role in the functioning of an air conditioning unit. As the name suggests, the unit filters the air that we breathe. They ensure that the air is free from any sort of dust particles or pollutants.

The filters also make certain that the air does not contain any bacteria. Just like air conditioning units, filters are available in different designs such as washable filters and replaceable filters. It is important that users clean the filters on a regular basis with a clean cloth or water or other wise replace them. This will in turn increase the life of the air conditioning unit. Such filters need to be cleaned or/and replaced after a few months.

Air conditioning filters play an important role in the smooth functioning of an
air conditioning unit. Pay special attention to this part of the unit and increase the untis life span considerably.

Switch to R401A, a more environment friendly refrigerant, to save our planet

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Air conditioning systems make use of refrigerants to cool the room. These refrigerants have included gases such as CFCs and HCFCs. When these gases leak, they are harmful and can cause a lot of damage to the ozone layer. This has ultimately contributed to global warming.

The serious effects of global warming
Global warming is the continuous rise in earth’s temperature. This rise in temperature is mainly due to the depleting ozone layer in the earth’s atmosphere. This ozone layer plays a pivotal role in protecting the earth and every living thing on it from the ultraviolet rays emitted from the sun. The ozone layer reflects these ultra violet rays emitted from the sun. Pollution and these refrigerant gases, however, cause a lot of damage to the ozone layer. The depletion of the ozone layer means that there is nothing to protect us from the sun’s radiation. As a result, the heat keeps on rising. Presently, there is a hole in the ozone layer right above Antarctica.

The need to switch to the R410A refrigerant
Changing your old R-22 refrigerant to newer R410A can make a lot of difference. R410A is a more environmentally friendly refrigerant and does not contribute to global warming.

The widespread use of R-22 refrigerant causes global warming

Monday, September 28th, 2009

The air conditioner is the best way to combat heat. Air conditioners keep you cool at home and at the workplace. Its cool breeze gives a soothing feeling with immediate relaxation. However, refrigerants like R-22 used in air conditioners can pose harmful effects on the environment.

The R-22 refrigerant has been used in the air conditioning systems which are widely used in every house and commercial business organisation. Due to its widespread use, the dangers caused by it are a matter of concern. When the chemical leaks, it releases hydrochlorofluorocarbons which are harmful to the ozone layer, contributing to global warming.

Due to the harmful effects of R-22 refrigerant, environmental laws have become very strict and are aimed at eliminating the use of this chemical. By 2010, the use of R-22 refrigerant will be banned in air conditioning units and in the maintenance of existing refrigeration.

Many countries have realised the hazards of R-22 refrigerant and are taking severe action against its usage in air conditioners. Air conditioners are now more likely to make us of the refrigerant R-410A instead of R-22.

Professional air conditioning installation has a lot of benefits

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

We are living in an age that is defined by the DIY spirit. More and more people are keen to do all their work themselves and depend on as little external assistance as possible. Without worrying about the gravity of the situation, most people would like to complete a given task themselves. However, there are certain things which are best left to professionals.

One important task which is best left to professionals is the installation of your newly purchased air conditioner. Installing an air conditioner can pose a lot of problems for anyone who is not trained or does not have enough experience of doing this. Moreover, if an air conditioner is not installed properly, there is a very good chance that it might not work efficiently. Air conditioning installation is a professional task which takes quite a while. It requires a great deal of patience and knowledge of a whole lot of factors.

Professional air conditioner installation providers have experts who will be able to assess your room and then locate a spot for the air conditioner which enables it to cool your room effectively while also reducing the load on it. It is also important to remember that by using the services provided by a professional air conditioning installation company, you will be able to save a considerable amount of money on your electricity and air conditioning maintenance bills.

The earth’s temperature is moving towards a cooler pattern

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

A leading environmentalist, Dr Mojib Latif, has warned that the planet could get colder over the coming two decades due to the natural changes in the world climate. Global warming predictions may be wrong, instead the planet is moving towards a cooler temperature, he said, at the UN’s world climate conference in Geneva last week.

However, he also maintains that this might be a temporary change and later the planet may become warmer. Dr Latif is the latest person to question global warming.

He maintains that his latest research forecasts that the cool temperature dominating the next two decades will address the rise in temperature due to humans. He added that the main cause of this climatic change will be due to natural changes in ocean currents and the atmosphere of the North Atlantic Ocean.

Dr Latif stated that the North Atlantic Ocean is perhaps responsible for the immense rise in temperatures over the last three decades but is now moving towards a cooling pattern. However, he does firmly believe that the carbon dioxide discharged from burnt fossil fuels will harm the planet in years to come.

People’s behaviour does have an impact on the environment. Air conditioners have been one of the key factors causing global warming due to the harmful refrigerants that were previously used in them. You can contribute your part in saving the environment by changing to eco-friendly air conditioners.

Installing an air-conditioner made simpler with the help of experts

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Customers should always seek the help of experts prior to installing air-conditioners.

The way in which the air-conditioning system is installed, determines the impact of the system. Regular customers cannot install air-conditioners on their own. Installing them requires great skill and training. However, there are certain things users should keep in mind pertaining to air-conditioner installation.

Expert help
Air-conditioning installation professionals will help you to install the device. They will also pay regular trips to maintain the system on a regular basis. Such services are extremely affordable and cost-effective. You can thus suggest a location of your choice and they will install the unit accordingly. Air conditioners can be installed in various ways. Installing the air-conditioner in an appropriate manner will save you from any sort of unnecessary noise. The ideal location is to install it in a place which is not visited much by members of the family.

Ducted system
The ducted air conditioning installation pattern is followed by many consumers.

This arrangement permits you to maintain the temperature of your home.
Vents are also fitted into the infrastructure of the home for the circulation of air. The same ducting system can be carried out for multi-storey homes. This helps you to maintain the same temperature throughout the home.

An expert will provide you with all the necessary advice concerning air-conditioner installation.

Help in R-22 phase-out and make earth better and greener

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Air conditioners are expensive equipment that help people to maintain a comfortable room temperature inside a confined space. Be it your home, school, office or a shopping centre, it is very difficult to survive without air conditioners. However, it is important that older air conditioning and cooling units must be replaced because they are harmful to the atmosphere.

All old air conditioning and cooling units use R-22 refrigerants, which release harmful CFC gases into the atmosphere that boosts the global warming phenomenon. In order to slow down the process of global warming, R-22 phase out is important. It has been decided globally that by the year 2010 R-22 phase out will be made compulsory.

However, R-22 phase out cannot be made possible until and unless normal people make an effort. All people who use air conditioning units must replace all their old cooling units with new cooling systems that use environmentally friendly refrigerants like R-410. Replacing old cooling units also helps in reducing the energy bills as the latest cooling units are equipped with energy efficient mechanisms.

If your cooling unit is not old enough to be replaced then you can at least get the refrigerant of the cooling unit replaced and help in R-22 phase out. R-22 phase out is an important environmental measure and it can happen in reality only when all people participate in the drive.

So, help in R22 phase out and spread the consciousness around in order to make earth a better and greener planet.

Government bans HCFC gases

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

The UK government is taking stringent action against global warming. Older air conditioners contribute greatly to global warming. To curb the ever growing effect, the F-Gas Support unit, a government organisation, has decided to ban the use of virgin HCFCs in air conditioners.

The government has warned all air conditioning companies who use HCFC based air conditioning systems to carry out their business eliminating the use of these refrigerants after December to avoid any additional costs and business damage.

This regulation has been passed in order to follow the EU Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases and Ozone Regulations. R22 is one of the commonly used refrigerants in the UK. This ban on the use of HCFC gases will surely affect the business operations of those air conditioning companies which use refrigerants like R22 or R408A in their air conditioners.

The use of HCFC gases in air conditioning systems will become illegal from 1st January, 2010. All companies will be banned from using such gases for refrigeration and also air conditioning equipment. The UK government claimed that the ban will also apply to those companies who have already purchased before January.

These rules will become tougher still after January 2015 when it will be illegal to use recycled or reclaimed HCFC.

Global warming has made Arctic summers warmer than ever before

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

The change in climate has caused the Arctic region to get warmer. With the increase in levels of greenhouse gases, the temperature in the region has been at its highest in the past 2,000 years.

The Arctic region began to cool thousands of years ago as alterations in the planet’s orbit increased the distance between the Earth and the Sun and lessened the amount of sunlight that reaches the northern latitudes during summer days. However, in spite of this, the summer in the Arctic is presently 1.2C warmer compared to the 1900s.

An international team of researchers, writing in the US journal Science, described how the thousands of years of cooling in the Arctic region have been followed by an increase in temperature from 1900 that accelerated quickly after 1950. The warming in the Arctic region is more alarming, compared to the natural cooling cycle. The lead author of study and a climate scientist at Northern Arizona University, Professor Darrell Kaufman said that the accumulation of greenhouse gases is disrupting the natural cycle of overall cooling.
