The importance of using ozone friendly refrigerants

CFCs or Chlorofluorocarbons are the refrigerants used in an air conditioning unit which help it cool the air in your room. About a decade ago it was found that CFCs contribute to global warming. CFCs when emitted into the atmosphere make their way to the ozone layer which can cause severe depletion in the amount of ozone present there.

This depletion has reached quite alarming levels and at certain locations around the poles, the Ozone layer is now almost non existent. Governments worldwide have recognised this environmental catastrophe and banned CFCs. Refrigerant companies have also come up with various environmentally friendly alternatives for air conditioning units and fridges.

New air conditioning units come with ozone friendly refrigerants. The old ones however, still sometimes continue to use CFCs as refrigerants. The Ozone layer protects us from the harmful ultraviolet radiation that can cause diseases that affect both animal and plant life on this planet.

It is very important that ozone friendly refrigerants are used in all new devices. This will ensure a cleaner and safer planet for generations to come.
