The phase out of R22 is a rapid process that has been taken up by the government

One of the most well-known products on the list of “to be banned” items is refrigerant gas R22. In spite of the repeated concerns mentioned by governments and various organisations, the refrigerant is used by some businesses.

The government phase out of R22 is rapidly taking its course however, and they have made it mandatory for those facilities using this refrigerant to phase it out and substitute it with the new and eco-friendly alternative – R410A. A lot of organisations are taking measures to meet every requirement of the law to phase out the harmful refrigerant.

The reason why R22 is being banned is due to its ozone depleting nature and consequent global warming potential. The phase out was put into practice a couple of years back through the Montreal Protocol and US Clean Air Act to free the world from hydrochlorofluorocarbons and chlorofluorocarbons which are found in many cooling systems such as refrigerating systems. Many countries have come together to give a supportive hand to this eco-friendly act.

The EPA is getting different businesses to curb the usage of this refrigerant and give out reports to the government on a frequent basis.
